Quick Summary
- Wings By the Pound is a new take-out-only chicken wing concept at 2707 Main St. in Deep Ellum, Dallas, in the former Slutty Vegan location.
- The concept sells wings and tenders by weight, with wings priced at $15.05 per pound, plus sauces, dry rubs, dips, and crinkle-cut fries.
Dallas’ Deep Ellum continues to add new food concepts, and one of the latest is taking a different approach to a familiar favorite: chicken wings by the pound.
According to CultureMap Dallas, Wings By the Pound opened its Deep Ellum location at 2707 Main St., in the space formerly occupied by Slutty Vegan, which closed in 2024. The location opened in mid-June and operates strictly as a take-out spot with no on-site seating.
What Is Wings By the Pound?
The concept is straightforward. Instead of ordering a specific number of chicken wings, customers order by weight.
Wings By the Pound offers wings or tenders in amounts ranging from a half-pound to four pounds, with the food weighed in front of the customer.
According to CultureMap Dallas, the restaurant estimates that one pound of wings is approximately 12 pieces. One pound costs $15.05, while two pounds, approximately 24 pieces, cost $27.11.

For tenders, one pound is approximately eight pieces and costs $17.02, while two pounds, approximately 16 pieces, cost $25.06.
The restaurant describes itself as a different kind of wing spot, focusing on weight rather than traditional wing counts and combo meals.
Sauces, Rubs, Dips and Sides
The menu still offers many of the familiar choices you would expect from a chicken wing restaurant.
Customers can choose from wet sauces including Thai, chipotle, hot honey and garlic Parmesan. There are also dry rubs such as suya, which incorporates peanut, and jalapeño-lemon.
For dipping sauces, the options include cheese sauce, ranch, bleu cheese, honey mustard and pound sauce.
The restaurant also serves crinkle-cut fries, available plain or with cheese sauce or its signature pound sauce. According to CultureMap Dallas, fries range from $8 to $15, depending on the selection.
A Deep Ellum Take-Out Concept
The location at 2707 Main St. is positioned as a take-out operation rather than a traditional sit-down restaurant.
That is an interesting fit for Deep Ellum, one of Dallas’ most recognizable entertainment and dining districts. The neighborhood already has a large mix of restaurants, bars, and food concepts, so finding a simple way to differentiate from competitors can matter.
In my opinion, the by-the-pound concept is a smart marketing idea. People already understand ordering chicken wings, but selling them by weight gives the restaurant a clear identity that is easy to explain and easy to remember.
The bigger question, of course, is whether the food itself delivers. A unique ordering system can get people through the door, but consistent food quality is what ultimately brings customers back.
Is This the Same Wings By the Pound From Trinity Groves?
There is an interesting Dallas connection here.
CultureMap Dallas notes that some customers may remember a Wings By the Pound concept that debuted in 2020 at Trinity Groves in West Dallas. That location eventually closed in 2022.
However, the current Deep Ellum restaurant is a new concept from ArkDal Hospitality Group, led by Cary Thompson, Royce Colley and Mo Wells. The group also operates Velour Restaurant in Victory Park.
So while the name may sound familiar to longtime Dallas food followers, this Deep Ellum location represents a new operation.
My Take as a Dallas Realtor
I pay attention to new restaurants and businesses around Dallas because they are part of the bigger picture of how neighborhoods evolve.
Deep Ellum is already an established Dallas destination, but new restaurants and food concepts continue to add activity and variety to the area. A take-out-focused wing concept like Wings By the Pound is another example of the types of businesses that can contribute to the neighborhood’s overall dining and entertainment ecosystem.
If you are already in Deep Ellum, the concept is certainly easy to understand: pick your wings or tenders, choose your weight, select your sauce or rub, and take your food with you.
