If you are a Trader Joe’s fan in North Texas, there is some big grocery news to watch. Trader Joe’s is planning three new locations across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with proposed stores in Plano, Wylie, and North Fort Worth.
Quick Summary
- Trader Joe’s has confirmed plans for three new North Texas stores: one in Plano, one in Wylie, and one in North Fort Worth.
- The proposed locations are 5900 Preston Rd. in Plano, 2710 E. FM 544 #110 in Wylie, and 9052 North City Dr. in North Fort Worth.
- Construction is currently slated for completion by June 2027, but Trader Joe’s has not announced a specific opening timeline, and the exact addresses could still change.
Where Are the New Trader Joe’s Stores Planned?
According to CultureMap Dallas, Trader Joe’s has plans for three new stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
The first proposed location is in Plano at 5900 Preston Rd. The site would be across from H-E-B near Spring Creek Parkway and would become Plano’s second Trader Joe’s. The existing Plano Trader Joe’s is located at 2400 Preston Rd.
The second proposed store is in Wylie at 2710 E. FM 544 #110. CultureMap Dallas reports that this location would be near Wylie High School and a Kroger Marketplace, while other major retailers including Aldi, Sprouts, Target, and H-E-B are also nearby.
The third proposed location is in North Fort Worth at 9052 North City Dr., just south of North Tarrant Parkway. The planned store would be across from Target and Costco and near the area’s restaurants and Portillo’s.
These locations are particularly interesting because each proposed Trader Joe’s would be positioned within established retail corridors with other major shopping destinations nearby.
When Will the New DFW Trader Joe’s Stores Open?
This is where it is important to separate confirmed plans from an actual opening date.
Trader Joe’s has confirmed that it plans to open stores in Plano, Wylie, and North Fort Worth, but the company has not defined an opening timeline. CultureMap Dallas also notes that the exact addresses could change because the stores have not yet been built.

Construction filings currently show completion for all three projects slated for June 2027. The Plano and North Fort Worth projects are scheduled to break ground in December 2026, while the Wylie project is scheduled to break ground in March 2027. The filings indicate the three stores will average approximately 12,500 square feet.
So, for now, I would describe these as planned Trader Joe’s locations rather than stores with confirmed grand-opening dates.
What This Could Mean for Plano, Wylie and North Fort Worth
From a Dallas-Fort Worth real estate perspective, I pay attention to retail expansion because new grocery stores can become an important part of how people experience a neighborhood.
Trader Joe’s is already an established name in the North Texas grocery market, and the company currently lists locations throughout Texas, including Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, and other Texas communities.
What stands out to me about these three proposed locations is not simply the Trader Joe’s name. It is where these stores are being planned.
The Plano location would add a second Trader Joe’s to the city and sit across from an H-E-B. The Wylie location would add another grocery option to an area that already has several major retailers. And the North Fort Worth location would be part of a busy retail area near Target, Costco, restaurants, and other destinations.
For residents, that means more grocery-shopping options. For people considering a move, neighborhood retail is also one of the many factors worth examining when comparing communities across DFW.
I would not treat a planned Trader Joe’s as a guarantee that home values will increase or that a specific neighborhood will suddenly become more desirable. Real estate is more complicated than one retailer opening nearby. But retail investment can be useful context when evaluating how an area is developing.
My Take as a Dallas Realtor
I think the bigger story here is the continued expansion of established retail and grocery options across North Texas.
Plano already has a mature retail environment, while Wylie and North Fort Worth continue to attract development and new amenities. Adding a nationally recognized grocery retailer to these areas gives residents another shopping option and adds another piece to the broader development picture.
For homeowners and buyers, I would look at this kind of announcement as one data point rather than making a real estate decision based on it alone. Population growth, new construction, inventory, infrastructure, schools, employment centers, property taxes, and the overall housing market all matter.
