If you are always watching for new restaurants and food concepts coming to Richardson, there is a new name worth putting on your radar: Slap Burger.

The Northeast-based smash burger chain is making its Texas debut in Richardson, Texas, bringing its halal burger concept to Arabian Village at 888 S. Greenville Ave.

According to CultureMap Dallas, construction is already underway, and the restaurant hopes to open by Christmas.

Slap Burger Is Making Its Texas Debut in Richardson

Slap Burger was founded in Paterson, New Jersey, and has grown to five locations in the Northeast, with two locations in New Jersey and three in New York. The concept has also expanded to Tampa, Florida.

Now, Richardson will become home to the brand’s first Texas location.

The restaurant follows halal principles, including sourcing meat from halal purveyors and avoiding pork. Its bacon and hot dogs are made with beef.

That gives Slap Burger a distinctive position in the Richardson and Dallas-Fort Worth restaurant scene, particularly as halal dining continues to attract interest from a growing customer base and consumers looking for clean-label food options.

What Will Slap Burger Serve?

As the name suggests, smash burgers are a major part of the menu.

Slap Burger’s burgers are four-ounce patties featuring the crispy, lacy edges associated with smash burgers. They are served with caramelized onions, American cheese, and pickles on Martin’s potato buns.

The restaurant also offers other burger combinations, including the Slap’N Melt, which features cheese stuffed inside the beef patty, and the Slap N Jack, a double-patty burger with caramelized onions, mushrooms and pepperjack cheese.

But the menu goes beyond burgers.

Customers can expect loaded hot chicken tenders, hot chicken sandwiches, cheese fries topped with Slap Sauce, hot dogs, chicken and waffles, and a banana pudding dessert.

The chicken and waffles can even be ordered with an Oreo or Fruity Pebbles waffle.

Slap Burger also offers house-made lemonade in flavors including dragonfruit, strawberry, orange Curacao, and mango.

The restaurant will not serve alcohol because it follows halal requirements.

Arabian Village Is Becoming a DFW Food Destination

The Richardson location is coming to Arabian Village, where owner Adam Shawish is working to transform the center into a more exciting food destination.

Arabian Village already includes businesses such as Arwa Coffee, which CultureMap Dallas identifies as the first Yemeni-style coffee shop in DFW.

According to Shawish, the Slap Burger concept came from a personal experience. He visited the restaurant during a trip to the Northeast and was impressed enough to believe it would be a good fit for Arabian Village.

That is an interesting strategy for Richardson.

Instead of simply filling a restaurant space with another familiar concept, Arabian Village is bringing in food businesses that offer something different from what customers may already find throughout North Texas.

My Take: This Is an Interesting Addition for Richardson

From my perspective as a Dallas-Fort Worth Realtor who follows local development, restaurants and neighborhood changes, Slap Burger is exactly the type of business worth watching when you’re paying attention to how a local area evolves.

Richardson already has a strong restaurant scene, so another burger restaurant by itself isn’t necessarily major news.

What makes this more interesting is that Slap Burger is bringing a Northeast-based halal smash burger concept to Texas for the first time, while becoming part of Arabian Village’s larger food-focused transformation.

The combination of a new regional restaurant concept and other food businesses could help Arabian Village become a destination rather than simply another neighborhood shopping center.

And for Richardson residents, there is a much simpler question: Will the food actually be worth the hype?

We’ll have to wait until it opens to find out.

What This Means for Richardson and DFW

New restaurants can be more than just places to eat. They can contribute to the identity of a shopping center and give people another reason to visit a particular area.

For Richardson, Slap Burger adds another recognizable food concept to a center that is actively building a broader food destination.

For the Dallas-Fort Worth area, it also represents another example of a restaurant concept choosing North Texas as an expansion market.

I’ll be watching to see how Arabian Village continues to develop and whether additional food and retail concepts follow.

If you’re interested in how new restaurants, businesses, development and other local changes can affect Dallas-Fort Worth communities and real estate, that’s exactly the kind of local information I track for my clients.
