Plano continues making major long-term investments in public safety infrastructure, and city leaders recently approved another significant step forward.

Plano City Council approved a $5.6 million design contract for a complete rebuild of the city’s police training center during a May 11 meeting. According to Community Impact, Dallas-based Brinkley Sargent Wiginton Architects, Inc. will lead the design process for the future facility.

The rebuild is part of a larger $51 million investment approved by Plano voters during the May 2025 bond election. The funding is specifically allocated toward police training center renovations and modernization projects.

According to city documents referenced by Community Impact, the new Plano police training campus is expected to include:

  • Tactical training facilities
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) training areas
  • EVOC classrooms
  • An indoor 25-lane firing range
  • Additional operational and technical training space

The city says the goal is to create a more efficient, modern, and coordinated training facility that improves interdepartmental communication and supports updated law enforcement training needs.

The current training center was built in 1990 and has never undergone renovations.

From a North Texas growth perspective, this project matters beyond just public safety.

Cities like Plano continue investing heavily in long-term infrastructure, modernization, and operational improvements as the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex continues expanding rapidly. Projects like this help position suburbs across Collin County and North Texas to support population growth, business expansion, and long-term economic development.

In my opinion, investments like this are one reason cities such as Plano continue attracting families, professionals, and homebuyers relocating to the Dallas area. When cities continue modernizing infrastructure and planning for long-term growth, it sends a strong signal about future stability and quality of life.

Plano has consistently remained one of the most desirable suburbs in North Texas because of its economic strength, schools, infrastructure, and city planning. Continued investment in public safety infrastructure adds to that long-term positioning.

According to Community Impact, the rebuilt campus will also consolidate technical training operations and improve coordination across departments, which reflects broader modernization efforts happening throughout North Texas municipalities.

As the Dallas-Fort Worth housing market continues evolving, hyperlocal infrastructure and city investment projects are becoming increasingly important for buyers evaluating where to live in DFW.
