Dallas’ Bishop Arts District is getting another restaurant that could add a different style of dining to the neighborhood. Min’s Prime Cut Korean Steakhouse is coming to 634 W. Davis St., bringing an upscale Korean barbecue concept to the former Berkley’s Market space.

According to CultureMap Dallas, the restaurant is expected to open by November. The concept comes from Minji Kim and her husband, Ben Lee, who have spent 20 years opening restaurants together. Their restaurant history began in Seoul, South Korea, where Min’s Kitchen eventually grew to several locations and earned Michelin Plate honors in the Michelin Guide Seoul from 2017 through 2019.

For Dallas, the project also has a local connection. Kim previously served as culinary director at Nuri Steakhouse after the couple came to Dallas. They have also worked at the now-closed Joa Grill and Flock & Fresh on Greenville Avenue. For Min’s Prime Cut, they are partnering with Dallas chef Roy Ahn, who is known for opening Otaru in Bishop Arts and Mizu Sushi on Greenville Avenue.

What will Min’s Prime Cut serve?

The restaurant will center its menu around Korean barbecue and premium beef. According to CultureMap Dallas, planned prime cuts include ribeye, New York strip, sirloin, tenderloin, filet and marinated LA galbi short ribs.

The Korean barbecue experience will be served at the table. Staff will slice the meat tableside and prepare it on built-in tabletop grills, while guests who prefer a more hands-on experience will also have the option to cook the cuts themselves.

The barbecue offerings are planned at several price levels, ranging from $69 per person to a $119 omakase-style experience. Meals will include salad, rice, dipping sauces and traditional Korean side dishes known as banchan, including kimchi, bean sprouts and blanched vegetables.

Min’s Prime Cut will offer more than Korean barbecue. Entrées are expected to range from $30 to $45 and will include dishes such as Chilean sea bass, jumbo prawns stir-fried with Korean soybean paste noodles, slow-cooked octopus and ceviche with yuzu juice.

The restaurant will also have a wine-focused bar with wine pairings for the premium meats, along with soju, beer and handcrafted cocktails.

A new restaurant for Bishop Arts

The upcoming Min’s Prime Cut will occupy a 4,000-square-foot space that is currently undergoing renovations. The owners describe the future restaurant as elevated yet modern and casual, with an emphasis on service and atmosphere.

The location at 634 W. Davis St. places the restaurant directly in the Bishop Arts area of Oak Cliff, one of Dallas’ well-known dining and entertainment districts.

The restaurant plans to offer lunch and dinner Monday through Thursday, with lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday are planned to have continuous all-day service.

My take

From a Dallas local perspective, I think the combination of Korean barbecue, premium beef and the Bishop Arts location makes this an interesting restaurant opening to watch.

What stands out to me is that this is not simply another Korean barbecue concept. The restaurant is positioning itself around premium beef, tableside service, wine pairings and a more elevated dining environment, while still keeping the interactive Korean barbecue experience.

The Michelin Plate history of Minji Kim and Ben Lee also gives the concept an interesting culinary background before it even opens in Bishop Arts. I’m particularly interested to see how Min’s Prime Cut fits into the existing Bishop Arts restaurant scene once the doors open.
