Wetzel’s Pretzels and sweetFrog Are Coming to Flower Mound

A new restaurant concept is coming to Flower Mound, Texas, and it is combining pretzels and frozen yogurt in one location.

Wetzel’s Pretzels, the California-based pretzel chain, is teaming up with sweetFrog, the frozen-yogurt chain, to open a co-branded location at 2500 Cross Timbers Rd. #110 in Flower Mound. According to CultureMap Dallas, the new store is anticipated to open in late September.

The concept is designed to give customers a one-stop destination for both savory snacks and frozen treats. That means someone could grab a warm pretzel or Wetzel Dog and then finish the visit with self-serve frozen yogurt.

For Flower Mound residents, this adds another food and dessert option to the local retail and restaurant landscape.

What Will Be Available at the New Flower Mound Location?

Wetzel’s Pretzels is known for its pretzel-focused menu and snacks that are designed for customers on the go.

Some of the Wetzel’s favorites highlighted in the announcement include the Original Pretzel, a hand-rolled pretzel that is lightly buttered and sprinkled with salt; Cin-A-Bitz, bite-sized pretzel pieces topped with cinnamon and sugar; and the Wetzel Dog, a beef hot dog wrapped in a pretzel.

The sweetFrog side of the concept will offer the chain’s self-serve frozen yogurt experience.

The combination gives customers both snack and dessert options in the same store, which is what makes this particular co-branded concept different from a traditional Wetzel’s Pretzels or sweetFrog location.

A First-of-Its-Kind Concept

What makes the Flower Mound opening especially interesting is that this is the first time Wetzel’s Pretzels and sweetFrog are being combined in this type of co-branded location.

The concept is part of a broader co-brand strategy that allows the brands to operate together using an adaptable store design that can fit different types of retail footprints.

Both brands are part of Kahala Brands, which operates dozens of multi-brand concepts. The company already has experience combining different food brands, but the Wetzel’s Pretzels and sweetFrog combination is a new pairing.

In my opinion, the concept makes practical sense. Pretzels and frozen yogurt serve different cravings, but they also complement each other as a snack-and-dessert destination. It is a simple idea, but that simplicity could be part of its appeal.

Local Entrepreneurs Will Operate the Flower Mound Store

The new Flower Mound Wetzel’s Pretzels and sweetFrog location will be led by local entrepreneurs Dave and Diana Stone.

According to the announcement, Dave has experience in logistics, transportation, and freight brokerage, while Diana has worked as a registered nurse in intensive care and at a nationwide law firm.

The husband-and-wife team said they were attracted to the co-brand concept because it brings two established brands together and creates a convenient place for families and friends to enjoy pretzels and frozen treats.

Their involvement also gives the new location a local ownership connection as it becomes part of the Flower Mound community.

Wetzel’s Pretzels Expanding Across DFW

The Flower Mound location is also part of a broader Wetzel’s Pretzels presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

According to CultureMap Dallas, Wetzel’s Pretzels currently has 10 regular locations across DFW, including locations at NorthPark Center, Allen Outlet Mall, Stonebriar Center, and Parks Mall in Arlington.

Additional locations are coming to Flower Mound, Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville, and Market East Shopping Center in Mesquite.

SweetFrog also has a presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with about a dozen locations locally. The frozen yogurt company was founded in Virginia in 2009 and has more than 300 locations, primarily on the East Coast.

What This Means for Flower Mound

Flower Mound continues to attract new businesses, restaurants, and retail concepts, and this opening is another example of the variety being added to the community.

The Wetzel’s Pretzels and sweetFrog combination is particularly geared toward casual visits, families, friends, and people looking for a quick snack or dessert. Its location on Cross Timbers Road also puts the new concept within Flower Mound’s established commercial landscape.

I also think the co-branded format is worth watching beyond this particular store. Combining two brands into one adaptable footprint can give operators more flexibility while giving customers more choices in a single stop.
