Major Construction Projects at DFW Airport

Terminal A construction

At Terminal A, the DFW Airport Board approved a $6.5 million reimbursement agreement with American Airlines for construction of Terminal A pier ramp space.

The project is part of the Central Terminal Area expansion and includes interior reconstruction for offices, ramp-level restrooms and a breakroom. The north portion of the terminal will also be renumbered as the north Skylink station.

According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, the project encompasses approximately 51,000 square feet and has an estimated completion date of December 31, 2028.

More than $940 million in Terminal C projects

Terminal C represents one of the largest components of the current DFW Airport construction activity.

More than $940 million was approved for two Terminal C projects. One contract, valued at $832.2 million, covers the remaining scope of the Terminal C renovation after Phase 1 was completed.

The work includes demolition of the top two levels followed by construction of a new structure involving steel, the building envelope, curtain walls and major HVAC systems.

American Airlines will also conduct interior finish-out work involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security, data, technology and other terminal operations.

The Terminal C work is scheduled to continue through December 31, 2029, following an extension of 975 calendar days.

A separate $91.7 million contract includes the installation of the south Skylink Station canopy, work associated with the new baggage-handling system and structural support systems, and lighting for the DFW Art Program.

Terminal D and Terminal E operations

The airport also approved a five-year contract worth up to $66.8 million for Vanderlande Industries to provide operations and maintenance services for Terminal E and operate a baggage-handling control room for Terminal D.

The contract is scheduled to begin in October.

Terminal F construction and its planned 2027 opening

Terminal F is another major part of DFW Airport’s long-term expansion.

The airport approved a reimbursement agreement of nearly $300 million with American Airlines for the Terminal F baggage handling system. The equipment will support inbound and outbound baggage operations as well as early bag storage.

The newest DFW terminal is currently scheduled to open in 2027.

The airport also approved $73.5 million for Phase 2 of Terminal F’s ticketing, processing, garage and roadway infrastructure. The project includes design and construction for customer ticketing, processing, baggage drop-off and baggage claim areas.

The parking garage is planned to include 5,200 spaces, along with a dedicated pedestrian bridge connecting the garage to the security checkpoint and gates.

According to board documents, customers will initially use Terminal D for these services until the new Terminal F facility is completed.

Rental Car Center road and bridge improvements

Construction is not limited to the terminals.

The DFW Airport Board awarded a contract of more than $9 million to Archer Western Construction for bus roads and bridge rehabilitation around the Rental Car Center.

The project has a 455-calendar-day term with an estimated completion in late October 2027.

The roadways and bridges surrounding the Rental Car Center were originally constructed in 2000. The rehabilitation will include phased work involving concrete pavement, bridges, stormwater drains, retaining walls and related infrastructure.

Why DFW Airport Construction Matters to North Texas

From a Dallas-Fort Worth real estate perspective, I think these projects are worth paying attention to because infrastructure is one of the pieces that supports long-term regional growth.

DFW Airport connects North Texas to businesses, travelers and destinations around the world. Continued investment in terminals, baggage systems, roadways, parking and passenger infrastructure helps maintain the airport’s role as a major transportation hub.

That does not mean every construction project will immediately increase property values or change the real estate market. I would be skeptical of making that kind of direct claim without supporting market data.

What I do think is important is the broader picture. Dallas-Fort Worth continues to invest in infrastructure that supports the region’s ability to accommodate future growth, and DFW Airport is a major part of that infrastructure network.

For residents, travelers and businesses in Dallas, Fort Worth and surrounding North Texas communities, the most noticeable changes will likely come as individual terminal and roadway projects progress over the next several years.

What DFW Airport Travelers Should Know

If you regularly travel through Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, it is worth paying attention to which terminal you are using and how construction may affect your route through the airport.

Terminal C renovation work is expected to continue through 2029, Terminal A’s project has an estimated completion date in 2028, and several Terminal F components are tied to the planned 2027 opening.

The Rental Car Center rehabilitation is also expected to continue into 2027.

These are long-term projects rather than short-term changes, so travelers should continue checking official DFW Airport information when planning trips.

My Take as a Dallas-Fort Worth Realtor

I see this as another example of the scale of infrastructure investment happening across the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

The important point is not simply that DFW Airport is spending hundreds of millions of dollars. It is that multiple parts of the airport are being modernized at the same time, from passenger terminals and baggage systems to parking, roadways and bridges.

For anyone watching North Texas growth, DFW Airport should remain on the radar.
