East Dallas continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the top food and lifestyle destinations in Dallas with the arrival of Alania Mediterranean Grill, a new Turkish and Mediterranean restaurant now open on Bryan Street.
Located at 4812 Bryan St. in the former Mai’s Vietnamese space, the restaurant sits near several recognizable East Dallas destinations, including Jimmy’s Food Store, Saint Valentine, and Dallasite Billiards. The opening adds another locally driven concept to an area that has seen steady momentum in restaurants, nightlife, and neighborhood culture over the last several years.
According to CultureMap Dallas, Alania Mediterranean Grill was founded by Melike and Kenan Turan, along with their son, Kaan Elagoz. The family moved to Dallas in 2012 and previously operated Istanbul Palace in Richardson before the restaurant closed during the pandemic in 2020. Now, they are launching a new chapter in East Dallas focused on authentic Turkish hospitality and traditional Mediterranean flavors.
The restaurant partnered with chef Tuna Patiroglu, who also worked at Istanbul Palace, to build a menu centered around Turkish cuisine and charcoal-grilled cooking. Menu items include traditional mezze such as hummus, atom, fire-roasted eggplant, whipped feta, and falafel, along with grilled beef, chicken, lamb, and shrimp skewers served with rice and salad.
One of the most unique features of the restaurant is its authentic Turkish-style ocakbaşı grilling room, where guests can watch chefs prepare food over charcoal directly in front of diners. That kind of interactive dining experience is still relatively rare in Dallas and helps differentiate the concept in an increasingly competitive restaurant market.
The menu also includes Turkish-style pide, Neapolitan pizza, soups, salads, wraps, and desserts, including baklava and kunefe, a traditional pastry dessert filled with melted cheese.
Initially operating with dinner-only hours, the restaurant is now expanding service to lunch, with weekend brunch plans also in development. That signals confidence in both the location and the growing demand for destination dining in East Dallas.
In my opinion, this opening represents something bigger than just another restaurant announcement. East Dallas continues evolving into one of the strongest neighborhood brands in Dallas-Fort Worth. Restaurants, walkability, local culture, nightlife, and independently owned businesses are increasingly shaping where people want to spend time and ultimately where they want to live.
As a Dallas Realtor, I pay close attention to these kinds of neighborhood developments because lifestyle growth often influences housing demand, buyer interest, and long-term neighborhood momentum. Areas with strong local business activity and unique dining scenes tend to attract attention from both buyers and investors looking for communities with character and energy.
The East Dallas area has become especially attractive for people seeking a more connected urban lifestyle while still staying close to Downtown Dallas, Lower Greenville, Deep Ellum, and White Rock Lake.
